In this video tutorial, we’ll go through a complete ADESO self-adhered membranes installation guide and best practices when applying these membranes to low-sloped roofs. We’ll also provide a detailed guide to using ADESO SA membranes.
Polyglass has a long history of adding value through innovation. As a leading manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems, Polyglass introduced self-adhered (SA) modified bitumen membranes to the roofing industry with its patented ADESO® technology SA membranes.
With years of proven performance in the field, ADESO self-adhered membranes comprise the latest in asphalt adhesive technology. These self-adhered roofings systems are versatile enough to be installed in both commercial and residential applications on low-sloped roofs below a two-twelfths pitch.
When installed properly, ADESO products will provide long-lasting and durable roof coverings that help meet the needs of the building and its occupants. This helps to save your clients time and money while protecting their property from the elements.

How to Install ADESO Self-Adhered Membranes
Step One: Allow the membranes to relax in the sun for at least 15 minutes, then and cut the membrane into workable lengths.
Step Two: Lay the strip of membrane flat, aligning it with the roof’s lowest edge.
Step Three: Fold each strip in half and remove the film on the underside. Pull at a 90-degree angle with a constant motion. Place half of the strip back onto the roof and repeat the film removal on the other half.
Step Four: Lay the next self-adhered membrane in place. Always overlap new sheets over the seams of the previous strip by a minimum of six inches all along the selvage edge.
Step Five: Press the membranes down with firm, even pressure and cut a 45-degree angle into the top corner of the sheet.
Step Six: Remove the protective film from the seal lap and press the next membrane onto the seam. Use your hand roller along each seal lap and seam to ensure full adhesion.
Step Seven: Once a whole layer has been installed, use your 80lb linoleum roller to ensure that the layer has fully adhered.
About ADESO Self-Adhered Membranes (Summary)
ADESO self-adhered membranes are unique roofing systems with a dual compound technology, featuring an APP or SBS formulation on the top weathering side. To compliment any existing shingle roofs, ADESO self-adhered cap sheets come in a range of surface options, including granules, sand, mineral, film, and fabric.
These membranes can also be reinforced with either polyester or fiberglass and feature an aggressive self-adhered formulation on the bottom of each sheet for exceptional adhesion to various roof surfaces. ADESO self-adhered membranes also feature SealLap®, a factory-applied adhesive treatment at the side seams, and FastLap®, a granule-free end lap. Both of these features create superior watertight sealing on any roofing surface.
Polyglass’s ADESO self-adhered modified bitumen membranes offer a range of advantages such as:
- Safety
- Ease of installation
- Quick end and side lap application
- Adheres to a variety of substrates
- Odorless
- Can be installed with hand tools, without needing open flames
- A multi-layered roof system that provides long-term performance.
ADESO Technology is used across the Polyglass range to create a line-up of specialized APP and SBS roofing membranes, such as highly reflective Polyfresko G SA cap sheets to protect against ultraviolet solar rays or Elastoflex SA V Polar Base SBS membranes, which are designed to stand up to colder environments.
