Polyglass Releases Time-Trial Videos Demonstrating Time and Labor Savings with Polyglass Products

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., a leading manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems, recently conducted a series of time-trials comparing the installation times for various configurations of their products. These four time-trial videos demonstrate that by using either a full or hybrid self-adhered system, contractors can save time and money on the labor costs of installation. Self-adhered technology is not only a safer and cleaner installation but there are significant benefits for contractors and their team.

To conduct the time trials, Polyglass set up identical conditions for the roofing teams to apply a roofing system to a 1000-square-foot panel. The videos show the step-by-step process for each roofing installation in the time trial and offer side-by-side comparisons of the results.

Trial 1: Two-ply torch (with FASTLap®) vs. 2-ply ADESO® self-adhered membranes

The first time-trial involved applying a 2-ply torch-applied roofing system compared with a similar roofing system using ADESO self-adhered technology. At the conclusion of the trial, the ADESO self-adhered system required one less crew member and was installed in almost 2 hours less time than the torch-applied system, amounting to a labor savings of 50 percent. Check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF8cCS3AOug

Trial 2: Two-ply torch (with FASTLap) vs. Stick 1 Torch 1

The second time-trial compared a 2-ply torch-applied roofing system with a Stick 1 Torch 1 roofing system—a hybrid application of ADESO self-adhered underlayment followed by a torch-applied top layer. The trial determined the Stick 1 Torch 1 system saved the five-person crew one hour and ten minutes of time, for a total labor savings of 30 percent.

Trial 3: Stick 1 Torch 1 vs. 2-ply ADESO self-adhered membranes

For the third trial, Polyglass pitted its hybrid Stick 1 Torch 1 application against a 2-ply ADESO self-adhered roofing system. In this comparison, the fully self-adhered system required one less crew member and saved the team a total of 47 minutes in installation time.

Check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ0YlVS_0xM

Trial 4: Two-ply torch (with FASTLap) vs. Velociflex System

The fourth time trial compared the 2-ply torch-applied system with the Polyglass Velociflex roofing system—a high wind resistant system combining mechanical fastening and torch application. The Velociflex system gives you a high-performance system in high wind zones while saving the contractor time and money. In the end, the Velociflex system saved the 5-member team about 30 percent in labor costs.

Throughout all trials it was identified that the ADESO self-adhered systems, whether it is in a hybrid system or a full SA System, saved time in installation which will save money for the contractor in labor cost. The end result, Polyglass roofing systems are long-lasting durable roofing systems with superior weathering performance. Polyglass and D&D Roofing Collaborate for Shriner’s International Project

Polyglass and D&D Roofing Collaborate for Shriner’s International Project

Project provided multi-ply modified bitumen roofing for Shriner’s Kerack

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., a leading manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems, teamed up with D&D Roofing, a roofing contractor in Nevada, to provide a new roofing system for a Shriner’s Kerack in Reno. Shriner’s International is a 501C organization consisting of a network of regional chapters, run primarily by volunteers, that offer support and services to those in need across the US and abroad.

For the Kerack Project, the Polyglass Special Projects team concluded that the facility needed far more than the project budget could support and decided it was critical to provide assistance for the complicated reroofing project. Polyglass offered to work with D&D Roofing on an entirely new roof design that would meet the Kerack’s needs. D&D Roofing came up with new roof design that included components to strengthen the building diaphragm. They chose a multi-ply modified bitumen roof system with exceptional performance and high puncture resistance, unlike the single-ply membrane previously under consideration.

After installing the insulation board, a layer of Polyglass’ SBS self-adhesive (SA) base membrane was installed, along with Elastoflex® SA Base , a high-performance polyester reinforcement. To add superior weathering and puncture resistance, the D&D Roofing crew installed an SBS granulated cap sheet with a high-performance reinforced polyester mat (Elastoflex® S6 G) by torching means, effectively fusing all layers of the assembly tightly as a monolithic layer resulting in 270 mils of membrane. The blended color added UV resistance and a visually attractive look to the completed roofing.

With Polyglass’ contribution by providing all the modified bitumen and related membrane accessories at no cost the Shriner’s for this project, the result was a much heavier-duty roofing system. It also allowed them to reroof the entire facility and make needed deck enhancements to the building.

As a result of this important project, this local Shriner’s facility can continue to provide critically needed meeting and transportation services for children and their families, giving them opportunities for no-cost medical care, and offer local residents in the Reno/Sparks area with a low-cost gathering place, all without the worry of a troublesome leaking roof.

Polyglass Announces Polystick XFR Self-Adhered Fire-Resistant Roof Underlayment

Polyglass Announces Polystick XFR Self-Adhered Fire-Resistant Roof Underlayment

Introducing Polystick XFR, a dual-purpose fire resistant and self-adhered waterproofing underlayment featuring Burn-Shield Technology

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., a leading manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing systems, is pleased to announce the release of Polystick XFR, an advanced dual-purpose fire-resistant and self-adhered waterproofing underlayment that provides superior fire resistance for combustible decks with metal roof coverings and other high-temperature applications.

Where other fire-rated underlayment products struggle to strike a balance between robust fire protection and reliable waterproofing, Polystick XFR successfully combines our ADESO® and Burn-ShieldTM technologies with the highest quality materials to yield a product that excels in both areas. This product achieves UL Class A fire ratings for combustible decks while also providing long-term superior weathering performance.

Utilizing ADESO Dual-Compound Self-Adhered Technology for fast, labor-saving application, Polystick XFR features an SBS (elastomeric) modified bitumen upper compound and an aggressive self-adhesive compound on the bottom. Fiberglass reinforcement provides additional strength and stability, and Polyglass’ own patented Burn-Shield Technology provides superior resistance to flame spread. The end result is a penetration-resistant underlayment of unmatched quality rated to withstand temperatures up to 265 °F.

Because Polystick XFR is specifically designed for high-temperature applications, it is an ideal underlayment for metal roof covering systems like steel, copper and similar materials. It is also approved for use under asphalt shingles, mechanically attached tiles, and any other application where fire resistance is needed or desired. When used as a secondary layer above Polystick MTS PLUS, this product can be installed as part of a multi-ply underlayment system. And because Polystick XFR can be exposed for up to 180 days, contractors can use it with confidence on works-in-progress.

“I’m excited about Polystick XFR,” said Polyglass National Product Manager Marco Sieber, “because Polyglass is able to offer an extremely high-performance product from a fire plus water protection and labor savings perspective in a market with very few other good options for the contractor, specifier and building owner.”

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., is available to answer any questions about this exciting new product. For specification sheets and more information about Polystick XFR and our other roofing and waterproofing products, please visit polyglass.us.
